Dr. Laura Dawson is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto. She is a Radiation Oncologist in the Radiation Medicine Program at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network (UHN).
Dr. Jennifer Knox is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Co-Director of the McCain Centre for Pancreatic Cancer, and Lewitt Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research. She is a staff Medical Oncologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network (UHN).

The second Thursday in June is designated Global Fatty Liver Day. On this day, buildings across Canada are lit green to raise awareness about fatty liver disease.
Fatty Liver disease, also called MASLD (metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease) is a risk factor for liver cancer. It affects approximately 25% of all Canadians and is when too much fat is stored in the liver; this is non-alcoholic in nature (Liver Canada, 2025)

Ontarians could soon have funded access to a promising new treatment for a rare and deadly form of cancer thanks, in part, to a Kitchener, Ont. woman’s advocacy.
Noor Ayesha’s fight for access was cut short when she died late last year from cholangiocarcinoma, also known as bile duct cancer.
Although, the drug Pemigatinib, sold under the brand name Pemazyre, helped extend her life, it came with a roughly $15,000 per month price tag.

The CDA-AMC pERC recommends that Pemazyre (pemigatinib) be reimbursed for the treatment of adults with previously treated, unresectable locally advanced or metastatic cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) with a fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) fusion or other rearrangement only if the conditions listed in Table 1 of the Draft Recommendation are met.

Greater Victoria mother of two Karla Bird is thankful for each day after almost dying from a rare cancer.
"I got really itchy hands and feet one night, and I didn’t know what was going on," Bird says.
The symptoms started in May of 2021, when Bird was pregnant with her second child. At first, they thought it was a complication of pregnancy. But after her son was born, her symptoms got worse.
